03. Document Handling & Zero Duplication

PageRead handles your documents via native Apple security-scoped bookmarks and file coordination APIs:

• In-Place Access: When you open a PDF from iCloud Drive, local iPad storage, or external drives, PageRead accesses the file directly in place. We do not upload your documents to our servers, nor do we create unnecessary duplicate copies.
• Security Sandboxing: The application runs strictly inside Apple’s operating system sandbox. It can only view files that you explicitly open, drag into the app, or choose via the system document picker.
• Local Bookmarks: Your recent reading history, scroll positions, and visual highlights are stored strictly on your local device within the app's secure container or synchronized via your personal Apple iCloud account under your control.

04. On-Device Voice & Speech Processing

PageRead features optional hands-free voice commands and Text-to-Speech (TTS) audio narration:

• Hands-Free Voice Commands: When speech recognition is activated to listen for navigation commands (e.g., “next page”, “previous page”), audio is processed strictly on-device using Apple’s Speech framework. No audio recordings or voice transcripts are transmitted to EconAssets or any third parties.
• Microphone Permission: Microphone access is requested only when you explicitly enable hands-free voice commands and can be toggled off at any time in your device Settings.
• Text-to-Speech: Reading PDFs aloud uses Apple’s on-device AVFoundation speech synthesizer. No document text or speech parameters leave your hardware.

Our informational website (econassets.com) provides documentation, release information, and product overviews.

• Aggregated Web Traffic: We use privacy-conscious Google Analytics on our website pages to measure general aggregated traffic trends (such as page visit counts). This data is anonymized and never linked to your personal documents, app usage, or identities.
• No User Accounts: You do not need an account, password, or email registration to use PageRead or view our website.
• No Ad Trackers: We do not run third-party behavioral advertising banners, track users across third-party websites, or sell any user information to data brokers.

PageRead contains no mature content, advertisements, social networking elements, or personal data collection. It is safe for all audiences and complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
